March 2023: Complementary...

We have been working madly on a new free Block Of The Month, and have, by the proverbial skins of our assorted teeth, just about made it in time... And the idea we had for this month's newsletter is about Complementary Colours- because quilts benefit from contrast, and this is one way of looking at a particular kind of contrast...
As you can see above, HB's version is very complementary...

I've had a lot of fun making this month's Pinterest page, and could happily have uploaded a thousand images.. Ah, another rabbit hole down which to fall and discover yet more new worlds...

This magical fish is from a post in their "Color Series"
bargello Lovely Bargello. And some basic theory.
You'll just have to excuse the spelling on the image...
paletton I don't do "computer games" but this lovely plaything is endlessly amusing. Hit "Add complementary" at the top right of the circle, and twirl... Play!
fmclass HH is teaching Free-motion Quilting at Sew and So's in Bungay on Friday 14th of April - click to reach the booking page - it's so nice to be teaching In Real Life again, and the classroom there is lovely and light...

And HB is teaching her amazing Giant Alphabets "Block Caps" on Thursday the 20th April CLICK HERE for details and booking. Also again on Saturday 22nd April at The Cosy Cabin near Bury St Edmunds CLICK HERE if this is nearer to you.
questioningquilter I have long been fascinated by "disappearing" blocks - where you make a simple arrangement, cut, re-arrange, and sew again for a (possibly unexpected) result. This blog by The Questioning Quilter has all sorts of variations on this interesting theme, and if you add yourself to her newsletter, you get access to lots and lots of these endlessly entertaining blocks...

And they are wonderfully suited to complementary colour schemes.
redblue A tiny bit away from the theme, but this post from the Quilt Inspirations blog, an ever-useful source of useful ideas and thinks, looks at a most interesting series of quilts in reds and blues...

See further down the page for a very interesting take on an alternative colour wheel from Joen Wolfrom, probably one of the most interesting writers on quilts and colour.
maq bom half and half Here you can see a tantalising glimpse of two very different versions of our new FREE Modern Art Quilters BOM which starts this month and will run for the next eight months. The monthly parts will remain on our website for the duration, so you can join in at any time.

yellowchair This Month's Pinterest page is called "Resonance" and is full of visual delights...

kitchensink And here's another, from SewCanShe - very simple at the start, and which caught my eye with its colour scheme
